First Gemvision intern Robyn has designs on dream career

Recent graduate Robyn Cameron is being given a taste of her dream career in jewellery design, thanks to Gemvision’s new internship programme.

Robyn was selected for the six-week internship from North Glasgow College, where students learn Gemvision’s award winning Matrix CAD design software on their final degree year in Jewellery Design and Technology.

Global jewellery software specialist Gemvision has supported young talent for many years with some of the UK’s leading dedicated jewellery schools, including North Glasgow College for the past two years.

Working within Gemvision’s Matrix technical support department, Robyn will learn how to help Matrix users improve their design skills and resolve customer issues.

Gemvision’s Graham Dicks said: “We wanted to support a new graduate who is keen to build their own business using our Matrix software.

“By giving Robyn the opportunity to improve her knowledge and skills in a real working environment, our aim is that she will be better trained to design her own collections.

“We also introduce Robyn to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and London’s Hatton Garden to make new contacts with other designers and manufacturers.  And we’ll be helping Robyn gain a greater understanding of the sales process, including shows, so she can better prepare herself to develop her own client base.”

Growing up in the Highlands of Scotland, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, lochs and seas, Robyn’s childhood explorations ignited her fascination for the world beneath the waves, inspiring her jewellery designs. She hopes her internship will enhance both her design work and her employment prospects.

She said: “This is a great opportunity for me to work with a leading global company in the jewellery industry.

“Since school, my dream has been to design jewellery and this is a fantastic chance to see what it’s really like to work as a CAD designer.”

Graham added: “It’s so important our emerging young talent has the right training and support, and we are delighted to be working with North Glasgow College, Holt’s Academy and Birmingham School of Jewellery.

“From a decimated jewellery industry in the late 80’s and 90’s, where we lost out to Italy and the Far East, we are now seeing strong talent born from these colleges.

“As a nation, we now excel in bespoke and designer jewellery from costume to super fine high ticket items.  It’s great to see the support the industry has shown to this next generation.”

This is the first time Gemvision Europe has taken on an intern and the company intends to roll out an annual programme.  Gemvision provides Robyn’s accommodation and travel from her home town in Inverness.
